Bacon Lane Architect LLC was contracted to design a new 6200-SF duplex (3,100 SF per unit) adjacent to Gypsum Creek and Gypsum Creek Golf Course. Our team worked closely with the owner / builder from the initial zoning and site feasibility studies and initial concepts, through the design development of the project which included HOA design reviews and approvals, through to final construction documents and the permitting process. Bacon Lane Architect LLC also worked closely with the owner / builder through successful completion of the project and Certificate of Occupancy.

Each side of the duplex features 2 floors plus full finished basement, a total of 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, and 2-car garage.

The first floor of each unit offers an open living concept (kitchen, living, dining) with a large kitchen island, gas fireplace, and views of the mountains, golf course, and Gypsum Creek. Also on the first floor is an office, as well as private deck off the kitchen and outdoor patio, all with views of the mountains, golf course, and Gypsum Creek. A 2-car garage provides plenty of space for ski gear storage and leads to a full mudroom with adjacent powder room.

The second floor of each unit boasts a primary bedroom with private balcony offering views of the mountains, golf course, and Gypsum Creek. The ensuite primary bath features dual vanities, freestanding tub, and steam shower. Two secondary bedrooms, full bath, and laundry complete the second floor.

A full, finished basement houses a recreation room, 2 additional bedrooms, full bath, mechanical room, and large shared egress wells incorporated into the architecture.

Unique architectural features include a scissor-trussed roof with vaulted ceilings on the second floor, custom metal handrails throughout, dark bronze windows and doors, and Adirondack stone, stucco, and vertical siding on the exterior.

This fabulous custom home designed by Bacon Lane Architect LLC was a contender in Colorado Homes & Lifestyle Magazine’s 2020 Colorado Home of the Year.

The homeowners chose this unique Bow Mar location to build their dream home after witnessing its incredible views overlooking the Pinehurst Country Club and 180° view of the Colorado Front Range offering breathtaking sunrises and sunsets.

An existing 1960 house was mostly removed (a small portion of the basement/foundation was retained) from the 1.18 acre lot to make way for a new custom home. “International art gallery” meets “mountain chic” was the homeowners’  overall design vision. They also wanted to build as high as safety guidelines would allow and have ample garage and basement space. Finally, the homeowners wanted to maintain an eco-friendly approach by saving trees. Bacon Lane Architect LLC was brought in to architect a one-of-a-kind home that would meet all these goals and more.

Dubbed the Sombrero Residence, architectural features include European styling, concrete slabs and blocks, metal support systems and roofs, and large windows. Inside boasts an open floor plan accented by wooden ceilings and beams. Outside, an intriguing roof design featuring a mix of flat and barrel is showcased, along with a fusion of stucco, rock, and metal construction materials.

The 10,750 square foot home is defined by contemporary Scandinavian design concepts, with clean lines while at the same time maintaining a warm and cozy feel. It’s spacious and contemporary, while still warm and welcoming. Large windows drench the residence in natural sunlight from the west. Inside is a fresh open-plan space perfect for entertaining the whole family. The bedrooms were designed as functional mini-suites with captivating mountain views. The kitchen offers plenty of space for dinner parties and gatherings, defined by high-end appliances.

Structurally, the home is held up by 49 caissons – the same technology as the world’s strongest skyscrapers. The caissons reach 40 feet underground, holding 8 steel support columns. Over 200 truckloads of dirt ensured the ceilings in the walk-out basement and first floor were at least 11 feet high. The home is also soundproof, from each wing of the main home all the way down to the basement.

An idyllic setting in Lakewood’s popular Applewood neighborhood is the perfect location for this custom-designed home by Bacon Lane Architect LLC. The homeowners wanted a new, modern home that took advantage of surrounding views and a quiet, secluded site at the end of a cul-de-sac with gulch flowing nearby.

The final 3,500 square foot home does all that and more. Ample, strategically-placed windows offer spectacular views, allow sounds of the flowing gulch to waft in, and look out on the mature trees that abound. The house features an open floor plan, tall ceilings, and a private outdoor deck perfect for entertaining or working from home.

The below video flyby gives a feel for the overall design and vision.

An eclectic couple envisioned an urban oasis for a dilapidated corner of States’s transitional Cole/RiNo neighborhood and Bacon Lane Architect LLC helped bring it to life with a unique custom design.

Two neglected properties comprised the homeowners’ large, .22 acre lot – two abandoned 3-unit row houses dating from the 1880’s and one small 1-1/2 story, wood-framed single family home dating from the early 1900’s.

The owners wanted to reuse the existing boarded up row house structures, so Bacon Lane Architect LLC proposed incorporating the smaller row house into the new home design and deconstructing the larger row house to preserve the perimeter walls along the property line and sidewalk. Bacon Lane Architect LLC custom-designed the home to incorporate the existing historic structures and create an inner courtyard.

The end result is a stunning, urban oasis surrounded by a perimeter wall of “ruins” comprised of the historic row homes’ exterior walls. The row homes’ original windows provide viewing portals into an interior courtyard and gardens, while providing security and containment for the home and grounds. The home has an elevator, three bedroom suites, two home offices and living spaces.

Construction was completed Summer 2020 by Squareroot Construction.

The below video flyby gives a feel for the overall design and vision.

Bacon Lane Architect LLC helped homeowners the North Park Hill Neighborhood realize their vision for a new custom, modern farmhouse residence. The design utilized the existing foundation with a new floor structural system, while the remainder of the home was demolished.

The homeowners had a clear vision for the home style and interior layout. The intent was to have modern functionality and amenities, wrapped in a clean, simple traditional building form. The layout could be viewed as a modernization of the classic States square.

The main level has an open welcoming entry which welcomes you to the living room. As with many homes being remodeled or new ground-up residences, the desire is to have an open floor plan. In this layout, the sequence from the front of the house is: living area, adjacent to the dining area in the center, open to the kitchen at the back of the house.

In this arrangement, the kitchen is the pivot point for everyday life that connects breakfast activities to an open island in the morning. Lunch can be equally casual with the opportunity to move to the outside patio under the pergola for some fresh air. During the evening, for potentially more formal dinners or entertaining, the connection of the kitchen to the dining area facilitates easy conversations and preparations for a special meal.

The main level also boasts an office/flex room in the front of the house. A complete guest suite with bathroom is located at the back of the house. Between the two rooms, the mud room, laundry, and powder room are tucked (quietly) in.

With access to the upper floor provided by a modern, single steel spine, open tread stair to a landing that turns back to the second level, the upper floor continues the intent of simplicity. There is a short hallway that first provides access to the master bedroom suite, complete with a 5-piece master bath and walk-in closet. From the center of the hallway is access to the shared bathroom. Moving toward the back of the house, doors lead to the 2 individual corner bedrooms. Overall, the upper level provides Master Bedroom Suite, two bedrooms and shared bathroom.

The exterior design maintains a minimalist approach with vertical board and batten siding that will be finished in white. All window and door frames are black anodized aluminum in contrast. A spacious shed porch sloped toward the street on the front of the house offers comfortable sitting to enjoy a nice cool Colorado evening. A similar structure is positioned at the back of the home, but with an open pergola frame to maintain light to the kitchen windows.

Bacon Lane Architect LLC Architects was hired to design a new hillside mountain home.  The owners selected a challenging hillside site with a consistent 30 degree slope on City View Drive in Morrison, Colorado. This unique site provided the architect and structural engineer team the opportunity to design an elegant and simple structure with uninterrupted city and mountain views.

The owners asked the design team to provide a mountain home with views of “morning sun and city lights to the master suite, distant mountain views to the living area, and sunsets for the dining room.”

The new ”mountain home with view” retirement residence has all living spaces on the top level accessible from an attached garage. The home also includes two complete Master Suites for the owners and guests.  Future build-out of the full walk out lower level can be customized in the future.
