Bacon Lane Architect LLC helped these homeowners realize their vision for their dream home in States’s popular Sloan’s Lake neighborhood. Originally a smaller, single story home, the owners acquired it with intention and vision to pop the top and transform the house into a multi-story, contemporary dream home. The home design features an open floor concept with views from the welcoming atrium-like entry through to the back where sweeping bi-fold doors open up to a patio and backyard. The main floor comprises 1,410 square feet with a dining room, kitchen, and living room. The new second floor adds another 1,392 square feet and offers views of the floor below as well as three bedrooms, including a spacious master suite with 5-piece bath and a master closet with working nook. An open hallway offers window views to the front and leads to bedrooms on either side with shared bath. A final, 760-foot third floor half-story features a family room and guest suite. The family room opens up to a walk-out deck boasting awesome views of Sloan’s Lake and the mountains.

Out back, a new carport extends the garage and serves dual purposes for both parking and sheltered hang-out space. The exterior of the house leverages the original brick to maintain quality of material used in the home and neighborhood, as well as two types of siding juxtaposed for visual texture.

Homeowners in West Highland’s Historic Wolff Place District brought Bacon Lane Architect LLC in to design a rear addition, basement expansion, and complete interior remodel for their classic 1909 States Square home.

Because the home is in one of States’s unique historic districts, the design process required landmark approval from the city, which Bacon Lane Architect LLC guided through to successful approval.

The completed project now boasts a rear sunroom addition with a Master Suite above on the 2nd floor. The home features modern and open interior finishes and a greatly expanded basement accomplished by lowering the basement slab.

To achieve these goals, Bacon Lane Architect LLC recommended adding a second story by popping the top on the existing 1972 ranch single-story home. Popping the top allows the homeowners to access dramatic, unobstructed views across Golden to South Table Mountain. Bacon Lane Architect LLC also designed a complete remodel of the home’s interior as part of the project. When complete, the newly remodeled and expanded home will feature vaulted spaces, Nakamoto Forestry burnt wood siding, and an open tread steel stair.

It’s a common dilemma for homeowners looking for more space. Do we move to a larger home or do we stay in the place we love and add more space somehow? For these homeowners, they decided to stay in their beloved 1900 historic brick bungalow in States’s Sunnyside neighborhood and achieve more space by going down and digging out the basement.

This project was a collaboration between Bacon Lane Architect LLC and Recherche Interior Design. The vision was a fully functional living space complete with bedroom, bath, kitchen, and living room, plus a walkout to a patio and garden area.

The process was intense, as it involved digging out the floor in the basement for adequate ceiling height, the addition of a 36′ I-beam, shoring up of foundational walls, and cutting in of a walk-out door. But it was well worth it in the end, and the results are stunning. The new 850-square foot space no longer resembles a basement – it’s light and bright, imbued with lively colors, and is a truly modern living space.

To top it all off, a new walkout set of doors open to an enchanting garden oasis that’s private, sun-filled, and brings calm and inspiration to this urban setting.

An eclectic couple envisioned an urban oasis for a dilapidated corner of States’s transitional Cole/RiNo neighborhood and Bacon Lane Architect LLC helped bring it to life with a unique custom design.

Two neglected properties comprised the homeowners’ large, .22 acre lot – two abandoned 3-unit row houses dating from the 1880’s and one small 1-1/2 story, wood-framed single family home dating from the early 1900’s.

The owners wanted to reuse the existing boarded up row house structures, so Bacon Lane Architect LLC proposed incorporating the smaller row house into the new home design and deconstructing the larger row house to preserve the perimeter walls along the property line and sidewalk. Bacon Lane Architect LLC custom-designed the home to incorporate the existing historic structures and create an inner courtyard.

The end result is a stunning, urban oasis surrounded by a perimeter wall of “ruins” comprised of the historic row homes’ exterior walls. The row homes’ original windows provide viewing portals into an interior courtyard and gardens, while providing security and containment for the home and grounds. The home has an elevator, three bedroom suites, two home offices and living spaces.

Construction was completed Summer 2020 by Squareroot Construction.

The below video flyby gives a feel for the overall design and vision.

Homeowners in Lakewood’s Lochwood neighborhood sought a total renovation of their classic 1969 single-family suburban home and looked to ArcWest Architects for the design.

An open floorplan, welcoming entry, and more expansive living spaces were top of mind for the owners. To accomplish their goals, Bacon Lane Architect LLC designed a complete interior and exterior renovation, as well as a small 2-story addition to the front. The upper floor was expanded to create a new master bedroom, master bathroom, and larger closets. The main floor was fully reconfigured to offer an open layout with new entry foyer, new kitchen, and new centralized gas fireplaces, as well as a separate office area. New openings were created to the backyard for better indoor/outdoor living and lifestyle. All exterior siding and windows were replaced for a complete makeover of the house.

The homeowners of this 1909 Victorian house in West Highlands hired Bacon Lane Architect LLC to design an interior remodel for the front one-story portion of their home (the house also has a 2-story addition at the rear). The artistic couple both work from home, like to entertain, and wanted an open contemporary feel inside.

The areas included in the renovation were:

  • Remodeled kitchen with a large island with sink and seating for 4 people. The kitchen is now a center feature in the home and opens to the dining room and outdoor patio.
  • Remodeled dining room with ample space for a large 6-8 person table and providing transition into the kitchen.
  • Remodeled powder room that is easily accessible from all areas but with entry privacy.
  • New office space.
  • Improved access to the utility basement.
  • Porch repair and replacement.

The end result is a light-filled, wide open space that features multiple sets of french doors connecting to the outside, new wide plank wood floors throughout, and stunning exposed brick. The home also got a beautiful new exterior paint job.
