ArcWest – Connecticut Architects has numerous projects “off the boards” and submitted for building permits to local agencies.  If anyone has been down to visit Development Services on the 2nd floor of the City & County Building on East Colfax, you know just how busy they are currently.  It’s a nice difference compared to last year in one regard.  On the other hand, plan examiners are loaded up and review times are now up to 4 weeks plus out for plan review and permit approval.

Bacon Lane Architect LLC has enjoyed the good fortune to be able to do our part to maintain a steady stream of design documents flowing to these city agencies.  Our projects have been submitted to the building department and / or preservation commissions, such as the Potter Highlands Historic District landmark board for plan review and approval.  A few of these projects, and their status, include:

  • Washington Street Residence | Renovation & Addition – Building permits approval pending
  • Patzcuaro’s Restaurant | Exterior Facade and Entry Renovation – Building permit approved
  • Black Sky Brewery | Renovation and Retrofit – Building permits approval pending
  • Bryant Street Residence | New “ground up” Home – Landmark approval received
  • The Laundry on the “Fax | Commercial Renovation – Planning & zoning approval received
  • Detour Bakery | Renovation & Retrofit – Building Permits approval pending
  • Prototype Castings | Commercial Change of Use – Logged in for Plan Review
  • Holly Street Residence |  Addition and Renovation – Logged in for Plan Review

As these projects  above are in the review stage, Bacon Lane Architect LLC has several other projects that are “on the boards” that we are diligently preparing to submit for plan review to local building departments in the coming weeks.

  • ABC Supply | Commercial Interior Office  (2 story) Build out
  • Julian Street Residence | Addition and Renovation
  • Former Future Brewery | Renovation and Retrofit
  • Osage Street Residence | Attic Conversion & Remodel

Construction framing is moving quickly on the new urban single family residence.  Interior spaces and the building’s unique architectural form are taking shape.  Installation of third level framing made it possible to photograph this spectacular city view from the roof top terrace.  The future owner of the residence will get to enjoy the city scape view as a daily amenity.

ArcWest Architects recently visited the construction site to see the progress.  As you can see, the urban residential architecture project is going vertical with construction of the 2nd floor.  The view from this 2nd floor level towards the city will make for a great backdrop to enjoy warm summer evenings on the upper deck.  Stay tuned as we share more about this project!

Bacon Lane Architect LLC continues to find efficient uses for pre-engineered metal buildings.  In this case the project consisted of a Chief Buildings four bay vehicle storage facility with offices for the Colorado Department of Transportation.

Bacon Lane Architect LLC was awarded this project due to our experience with metal buildings and their use on challenging sites.  Bacon Lane Architect LLC completed a project in 2008 for the Klamath Falls Herald & News which utilized a Metallic Building, Inc. on a hillside with no level areas.  To accommodate the 48,000 SF single level facility and all the trucking and vehicular needs around it the site was terraced and an attractive yet massive retaining wall was placed behind the building.  The back wall of the building also functioned as a retaining wall to reduce overall cost.

This vehicle storage facility located along Colorado HWY 74 in Kittredge Colorado is tucked into the hillside to maximize the narrow flat site and accommodate the on-going needs of a Colorado Department of Transportation road maintenance site.

The project team has been fortunate that snow fall has remained light and we have had plenty of warm autumn days to complete the concrete footings and foundation work. We plan to complete all concrete flat work and install the Redi-Rock site retaining wall behind the building before the Christmas/New Years Holiday.

See the construction photo’s of work completed and follow the projects completion in subsequent blog postings or contact Bacon Lane Architect LLC for additional information.

Interesting article this week in the States Business Journal about an internet start-up company ZamRay, LLC.  This business is going to fill a niche service in re-purposing leftover building materials found at the end of construction projects.

The benefit is twofold:  First, those materials won’t end up in the landfill – This promotes sustainable concepts and methods.  Reduce, reuse and recycle.   Second, it opens up a source for materials at a lower cost for smaller projects.  Smaller projects typically start off at a disadvantage financially.  ZamRay will provide an avenue for owners and contractors to procure building materials at a lower cost allowing smaller construction projects the ability to meet their budget.

ArcWest Architects is excited to announce The “Hole” Bakery and Restaurant on Tennyson Street in Northwest States is finally open for business.   The official opening day to the public was August 19 just 2 weeks ago today.

It’s that bitter sweet time in which we are pleased to see the completion of a project we have been working on for so long.  The “bitter” is that we no longer have that weekly interaction with the great clients you grow to have a great relationship with.  The “sweet” of course is to finally see the final built product of the design, and a tangible result for all the ideas that were considered (some thrown to the floor in the process) and others  integrated into the final designand  drawings.

There is quite a lot of buzz about the restaurant as you can read in online sources.  The examiner.com published an Introduction by Sarah Gerhart-Bryan.   The Westword set up a profile which has a number of appetizing photos of the doughnuts and pastries.   I stopped in last weekend to introduce the family to the restaurant Bacon Lane Architect LLC had been working on, and to try out a few of their gourmet doughnuts.  The family thought they were truly awesome!

All said, it is certainly a proud moment to see the commercial project complete and the business in operation.  We wish the Delmonico family all the best with their new business and hope “the hole” sells lots of doughnuts.

For more information about the project and to see a series before, during construction and after photos, please see ArcWest Architects “The Hole” commercial project page .
